Whether operating on land or water, our team brings the expertise, planning, and precision needed to ensure project success.
In November 2024, Geo-Environmental successfully completed a specialized barge-based drilling project on Lake Simcoe, just off the shores of Jacksons Point. This project demonstrated our ability to coordinate complex operations while maintaining strict safety standards and efficiency.
Executing a drilling program on water introduces unique logistical challenges. The project required a high level of organization, coordination, and adherence to safety protocols from start to finish. Through detailed pre-job planning, clear and consistent communication, and strong collaboration with all stakeholders, our team ensured seamless execution.
Operational Coordination
Our team effectively managed all moving parts of the operation, including:
- Coordination with crane operators, barge providers, and project consultants
- Loading and unloading the drill rig onto and off the barge
- Crane-assisted transport of drilling equipment and materials
- Managing heavy equipment safely in a marine environment
- Scheduling operations around changing weather conditions
Drilling Scope
The drilling scope required precision and adaptability to varying subsurface conditions. Our team completed the following:
- Installed drill casing, lowering it approximately 20 feet to the lakebed
- Secured casing at the barge level for stability
- Advanced casing through overburden soils to reach bedrock at approximately 40 feet
- Conducted HQ rock coring to depths of 70 feet
- Properly sealed all boreholes in compliance with Ontario Regulation 903
Health and safety remained a top priority throughout the project, particularly given the challenges of working with heavy equipment over water. Geo-Environmental is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards while delivering efficient, high-quality results.
This project on Lake Simcoe stands as a strong example of our team’s ability to deliver complex drilling services with precision, professionalism, and safety at the forefront.
